🪔 About

Muraleekrishnan G, a distinguished Kathakali artist, was born on May 5, 1971, into a family deeply rooted in the tradition of this classical Indian dance-drama from Kerala. His lineage boasts a remarkable three-generation legacy of Kathakali artists, with his father, Mathoor Govindan Kutty, being a renowned Kathakali actor, and his mother, A.K. Rajeswary, being the daughter of the esteemed Kathakali artist Kudamaloor Karunakaran Nair. This rich heritage provided a strong foundation for his artistic journey. Muraleekrishnan G commenced his rigorous Kathakali training at the tender age of eight, studying under the tutelage of Kalamandalam Ramakrishnan for a decade. He further honed his artistry and deepened his understanding of the complex Kathakali grammar under other prominent gurus, including the legendary Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair and Kalamandalam Vasu Pisharody. His extensive training has equipped him with a versatile command over the intricate expressions, elaborate mudras (hand gestures), and dynamic movements characteristic of Kathakali. He specializes particularly in portraying "Minukku" (Sthree) characters, known for their refined and gentle demeanor, and "Pacha" characters, which represent noble and heroic figures. Throughout his career, Muraleekrishnan G has garnered recognition for his exceptional talent and dedication to the art form. He secured first prizes for six consecutive years in school and college-level youth festivals, showcasing his early promise. His accolades also include the prestigious Kottayam Kaliyarangu Award and a scholarship from the Human Resource Department. Beyond his active performances in various Kathakali clubs across Kerala, Muraleekrishnan G is committed to the propagation and academic understanding of Malayalam literature, serving as a Malayalam Lecturer at C.M.S. College Kottayam. His standing as a significant figure in the Kathakali world is further underscored by his inclusion among "Senior Kathakali exponents of today." He also notably contributed to a documentary about his guru, Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair, by portraying his childhood stage. Muraleekrishnan G continues to reside in Kudamaloor, Kottayam, Kerala, India, contributing to the vibrant Kathakali tradition. Awards & Honours: First prizes in school and college level youth festivals, Kottayam Kaliyarangu Award, Scholarship.
