Nandita Puri is a celebrated and renowned Indian classical Kathak dancer of the Jaipur Gharana, also recognized for her work as a television actress. Born in Chandigarh, she completed her graduation in Psychology and Ancient Indian Culture. Puri began her formal dance training in Chandigarh before moving to Mumbai. She initially trained for a year with Guru Shankaar Dev Jha. Subsequently, she became a disciple of the acclaimed Padmashree Dr. Roshan Kumari of the Jaipur Gharana, under whom she trained for five years, immersing herself in the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara. She also lived with her guru for twelve years. Throughout her career, Nandita Puri has performed extensively both in India and internationally, including representing India in Germany for nine performances as part of a prestigious cultural exchange tour by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in 2005. She is also a choreographer, having created dance ballets such as "Shan-E-Moghul-Darbar/Agra" and "Ramayan" for Zee TV. Her choreographic work extends to directing dance sequences for music videos, commercials, and television serials, notably for Shyam Benegal's film "Sardari Begum." Puri is dedicated to promoting classical arts and founded "Shringaar" in Sector 16, Chandigarh, around 2014, where she teaches Kathak. She actively works to promote classical arts in Chandigarh through an organization established by her parents and is involved in creating new works, including a ballet exploring the healing power of music. Her contributions to dance have been recognized with a Government of India Scholarship under 'Scholarship to Young Workers' in different cultural fields in 1982-83, and she holds the titles of 'Nritya Prabhakar' and 'Praveen' from the Prayag Sangeet Samiti of Allahabad.
