🪔 About
Nedumpally Ram Mohan is a distinguished Indian classical musician, primarily renowned as a Kathakali singer. Born in Nedumpally Mana, Sreekrishnapuram, Palakkad District, Kerala, his family had a strong artistic lineage; his father, Nedumpally Narayanan Namboothiri, was a Kathakali singer and a disciple of Kalamandalam Neelakantan Nambeesan, while his mother, Leela Antharjanam, was a musician and Thiruvathirakali artiste. Ram Mohan began his musical journey at the age of five, learning Carnatic music from his elder brother, Krishnamohan. A year later, he commenced training in Kathakali 'vesham' (acting) under Kalamandalam Soman, a discipline he pursued for ten years. He made his debut as a Kathakali actor at the age of ten, with his first performance recorded in 1986. Two years after his acting debut, Ram Mohan shifted his focus to Kathakali music, receiving advanced training from Kalamandalam Sreekumar in the 'Gurukula' style. He further honed his classical music skills under Kurussathamanna Krishnan Namboothiri and K.M. Krishnan Namboodiri. He holds a BSc and BEd in Mathematics and pursued a post-graduate degree in Carnatic music from the School of Drama and Fine Arts in Thrissur, also being an MA Music Rank holder. Nedumpally Ram Mohan has established himself as one of the most sought-after Kathakali singers, performing extensively across India and internationally alongside legendary artists such as Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair, Kalamandalam Gopi, and Madambi Subrahmanian Namboodiri. He is also a Mathematics teacher at T.S.N.M High School in Kundoorkunnu, Palakkad, since 2010, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. from Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University, researching the confluence of raga and rasa in Kathakali. He is married to K.N. Meera, also a Kathakali singer, with whom he frequently performs. He has trained numerous musicians, emphasizing the importance of a strong Carnatic music foundation for Kathakali music students. Awards & Honours: T.V. Kochaniyan award.
