Nripen Sahis is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, specifically recognized for his mastery of Purulia Chhau, a vibrant martial and folk dance form from the Purulia district of West Bengal. His significant contributions to the art form were acknowledged with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for 2024. This national honor, conferred by the President of India, highlights his sustained individual work and dedication to preserving and promoting Chhau dance. Sahis carries forward a rich legacy, being the grandson of the legendary Rasu Sahis, a revered name in the tradition of Chhau dance. This lineage underscores his deep-rooted connection to the art form and his role in its continuity. He is associated with the Baligara Kishan Chhou Nritya Samity, an institution based in Baligara, Tamna, Purulia, West Bengal, where he serves as an 'Ostad' (master or teacher).
