🪔 About
Born in Patna, India, Padma Khanna began her Kathak training at the age of seven under Guru Kishen Maharaj in Varanasi, and later received advanced training from Gopi Krishna. She started performing on stage at the age of twelve, often accompanied by tabla maestro Pundit Shamta Prasad. Khanna also had a prolific career in Indian cinema, appearing in over 400 Hindi and Bhojpuri films in the 1970s and 1980s. She is well-known for her dance performances in films like "Johnny Mera Naam" (1970) and her role as Queen Kaikeyi in the television series "Ramayan" (1987-88). In the 1990s, Padma Khanna, along with her late husband, film director Jagdish L. Sidana, migrated to the United States and founded the Indianica Dance Academy in New Jersey. Through her academy, she has dedicated herself to promoting Indian classical dance and culture, particularly Kathak, in the diaspora. She continues to serve as the founder and principal of Indianica Academy, which hosts an annual cultural show, "Chamakte Sitaaray," since 1996. Awards & Honours: Membership in the International Dance Council (CID) (2011).
