Paramita Chakraborty is a professional Indian classical dancer, choreographer, and teacher based in Kolkata, India. She graduated with distinction in 1995 from the Ananda Shankar Centre For Performing Arts, specializing in the Uday Shankar technique of New Dance, an Indian Contemporary technique. Her foundational training began at an early age, starting Kathak at six years old. She holds four-year diplomas in Kathak and one-year diplomas in Bharatanatyam, Manipuri, Rabindra Geeti Nritya, and Indian Folk Dance from Sangeet Kala Kendra, Kolkata, India. Chakraborty further expanded her dance education internationally, studying introductory level Graham Technique at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance in New York, USA. She also attended workshops in various contemporary techniques including elementary level Graham technique by Jacqulyn Buglisi, Horton technique by Andre Tyson, Limon technique by Janet Kaylo, and Cunningham Technique by Margaret Jenkins, alongside Kalaripayattu and Afro-American and Contemporary techniques. As a scholarship awardee, she has gained global exposure through her participation and conduct in national and international cultural events with the Tanusree Shankar Dance Company. Paramita Chakraborty is the Director and Principal of Abhinaya Bharati. She is an exponent of classical, Rabindrik, and folk dances, and also engages in creative and modern dance, movement therapy, and professional dance for various media including film, ramp shows, music albums, and stage. She has also contributed articles on dance, including "Dancing, a viable career option" for WomanPower.com. Her mission is to facilitate the renewal and widespread social acceptance of dance, advocating for community dancing and promoting dance as a viable career option.
