Born on January 1, 1954, in Kherabera, Jharkhand, Parikshit Mahato is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, specifically renowned for his contributions to Chhau dance. His passion for Chhau was recognized and encouraged by his parents, leading him to begin performing with his village team. He received his formal training in Chhau under the tutelage of Dhananjay Mahato. Throughout his career, Shri Parikshit Mahato has played a significant role in popularizing Chhau dance. He established his own group, named Ghoshal Krishi Mangal Chhow Nritya Samiti, and has performed in numerous prestigious events across India, including those organized by government bodies. He is also associated with the Parikshit Mahato Chhau Academy, which actively promotes and teaches the dance form. Mahato has dedicated himself to imparting training to many young aspirants, thereby contributing to the preservation and propagation of Chhau dance. In recognition of his profound contributions to Chhau dance, Parikshit Mahato was honored with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2023. This prestigious award, India's highest recognition in the performing arts, was conferred by the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, in a special investiture ceremony.
