Piyali De is an accomplished Indian classical Odissi dancer who began her training at the age of five under the tutelage of renowned Odissi Maestro Smt. Madhavi Mudgal at the prestigious Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya in New Delhi. She further refined her art with regular feedback from the late doyen, Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra. Piyali De gave her first public performance at the tender age of ten for Doordarshan's "Nanhi Duniya" and her first solo performance as a scholarship holder in Sahitya Kala Parishad's "Sopan Festival". She has since performed extensively in major festivals across India, including the "Young Dancers Festival" at Sri Ram Centre, "Horizon Series" of ICCR at Azad Bhawan, NDMC's series of Young Talents, "The Yuva Mahotsava" in Delhi, and the "Puri Sea Beach Festival", "Konark Festival", and "Nrityotsava Festive of Choreographies" outside Delhi. Her solo recital at the India International Centre was highly acclaimed by critics. Piyali De is empanelled by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) and is a Grade "A" artist of Doordarshan. She has represented India internationally, including a trip to Shanghai, China, in June 2006 for the World Summit of Asian Countries, and performances in South America, South East Asia, and the Sub Continent. She was also featured in "The Days of Delhi in St. Petersberg", Soviet Russia, in September 2003. Beyond performing, she has contributed to dance education as a Cultural Coordinator at Delhi Public School, Greater Noida, and as a Faculty member at Gandharva Maha Vidyalaya, where she trained budding artists. She also choreographed a creative dance, "Ek Nai Subah," in 2005 for students from The Creativity School for Slum Children.
