Pooja Karthik is a Bharatanatyam dancer originally from Chennai, India, now based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. She began her Bharatanatyam training at the age of six in Chennai. After moving to the Netherlands to pursue a Master's in Structural Engineering at TU Delft, she further deepened her Bharatanatyam practice under the guidance of her guru, Jolanda Boejharat. Pooja Karthik is preparing for her Arangetram, her first major solo debut in Bharatanatyam, scheduled for May 3, 2026, at the Eduard Flipse Zaal in De Doelen, Rotterdam. This performance will follow a traditional Margam, showcasing the technical, rhythmic, and expressive dimensions of the dance form, adhering to the Kanchipuram Ellappa Pillai Bani, Tanjore style. She is also known to have performed semi-classical and contemporary dance with the Dance Troupe of NIT Trichy. While embarking on her journey as an independent artist, blending Bharatanatyam with Rotterdam's contemporary cultural landscape, Pooja Karthik also works full-time as a structural engineer. Her Arangetram marks a significant milestone in her dedicated training and artistic growth in the classical Indian dance tradition.
