Poorvi Singh is a dynamic Kathak dancer and an innovative choreographer, who has garnered attention for her compelling performances in Indian classical dance. At the age of 22, she captivated audiences with her self-choreographed Kathak dance ballet, "Yagyaseni: Born of Fire." This unique production offers a powerful reimagining of the ancient Indian epic, the Mahabharata, specifically through the lens of Draupadi's experiences. Singh's artistic vision blends traditional Kathak movements with dramatic lighting and evocative storytelling, crafting an unforgettable visual and emotional journey for the audience. Her extensive training in Kathak spans 16 years, during which she received rigorous instruction and guidance from her esteemed guru, Mulla Afsar Khan. The "Yagyaseni" ballet, which premiered to rave reviews in Silicon Valley, Sunnyvale, California, and was later presented in Gurugram, India, immerses viewers in critical moments of the Mahabharata. These include the pivotal dice game and Draupadi's fierce transformation into Durga. Through her expressive dance, Singh skillfully connects the timeless lessons of the Bhagavad Gita to contemporary relevance, with each graceful step and powerful spin embodying Draupadi's resilience, courage, and ultimate destiny, thereby highlighting universal themes of justice, strength, and karma.
