Prerona Bhuyan is a distinguished Indian classical dancer specializing in Sattriya, an art form originating from the Vaishnav monasteries of Assam. Her journey into dance began at the tender age of four, introduced by her mother. She received extensive training in Sattriya under revered gurus including Padmashree Jatin Goswami, Guru Naren Barua of Uttar Kamalabari Sattra, Anita Sharma, Dr. Bhabananda Barbayan, Gobin Kalita Bayan, and Guru Ramkrishna Talukdar. Beyond Sattriya, Bhuyan also trained in Bharatnatyam under the tutelage of Padmashree Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Guru Indira P.P. Borah. Her diverse dance background further includes contemporary and jazz forms, which she studied with Santosh Nair and Ashley Lobo at Danceworx, and yoga under renowned guru Navtej Johar. Bhuyan is an empaneled artist with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and is dedicated to promoting Sattriya globally. She is the co-founder and artistic director of the Philadelphia-based Sattriya Dance Company, established in 2009 with Madhusmita Bora. The company's mission is to preserve, present, and promote this 500-year-old dance tradition through performances, lecture demonstrations, classes, and research. Prerona Bhuyan has performed and presented lecture-demonstrations across India, the USA, UK, Mexico, and Singapore, with her performances receiving acclaim from publications like The New York Times and The Indian Express. She divides her time between the USA and India to further the cause of Sattriya. Additionally, Bhuyan is involved with Folk Beats, a music production company focused on preserving Assamese folk music, and contributed to the documentary film “Borgeet- Eti Dhrupad Sampad.”
