🪔 About
Priyadarshini Roy is an accomplished Odissi dancer and teacher, tutored in the art form by her mother, Guru Dipanwita Roy, who is an internationally acclaimed exponent of Odissi and a senior disciple of the legendary Padmavibhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. Priyadarshini began her dance journey at a very young age, performing for the first time at four and making her solo television debut on Doordarshan Calcutta at six. She holds a Prabhakar Degree in Odissi with Distinction from Prayag Sangit Samiti, Allahabad, and has also received training in Kathak, Indian classical music, and Rabindrasangeet. Throughout her career, Priyadarshini has performed extensively as a soloist and in groups across India, Europe, and the United States. Her notable performance venues include the Nehru Centre in London, the Auditorium du Musée Guimet in Paris, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in New York. She has also engaged in experimental projects, collaborating with other Indian classical, Western classical, and contemporary dance forms. Priyadarshini has taken on lead roles in significant dance-theater productions such as Rabindranath Tagore's "Chitrangada" and "Bhanusingher Padabali," as well as "Saundarya," a cross-cultural dance-theater adaptation of Cinderella. Her passion for dance extends to teaching and choreography, which she began at the age of eleven. In 2002, she started teaching Odissi at her mother's institution, Shibaranjani, and at Sangeetayan in Calcutta. Following her move to New York in 2011, Priyadarshini established Odissi classes for beginners at Anamika-Navatman and continues to teach at various locations in Manhattan, White Plains (NY), and Stamford (CT). She currently leads the New York branches of Shibaranjani. Beyond her artistic pursuits, Priyadarshini also works as an investment management consultant in Manhattan. Awards & Honours: Siranama Award, Best Performer (2002).
