Pulikeshi Kasturi is an acclaimed Indian classical dancer, nattuvangist, teacher, and promoter of classical arts, primarily known for his contributions to Bharatanatyam. He received his initial training in Bharatanatyam under veteran gurus Lalitha Srinivasan, a senior disciple of Venkatalakshamma, and Smt. Narmada, a disciple of Kittappa Pillai. He also received training in Kathak from Guru Maya Rao, who initiated him into the art form. Further enriching his dance education, Pulikeshi trained under Smt. Ranjani Ganesan, an alumna of Kalakshetra, and pursued Abhinaya under T.K. Mahalingam Pillai. He also delved into martial arts, learning Manipuri from Sri Sonar Chand and Sri Khilton Nongmaiten, and Kalaripayattu from Sri Anil Kumar. Academically, Pulikeshi Kasturi holds a Master's degree in Dance from Bangalore University and a Choreography degree from the Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography, where he studied under Guru Maya Rao. He also earned a Vidwath certification from the Government of Karnataka. Throughout his career spanning over two decades, Pulikeshi has been recognized for his performances in both Bharatanatyam and Kathak at prestigious festivals such as the Soorya Festival, Hampi Utsava, and the National Jamboree, among others, including international appearances in the U.S., Iraq, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He is particularly acclaimed as a nattuvangist, often referred to as the “best nattuvangist of Karnataka,” known for his strong command of rhythm (laya) and perfect pronunciation. He has accompanied numerous leading Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi dancers across India and internationally. As a choreographer, Pulikeshi has created numerous Pushpanjalis, Jathiswaras, Tillanas, and dance ballets, including “Bakasura Vadha,” “Kirataarjuniya,” “Veera Raghava Vyayoga,” and “Matadaana.” He is the artistic director of Shanthala Arts Academy in Bangalore, where he trains hundreds of students in Bharatanatyam and Nattuvangam, and regularly conducts nattuvangam workshops. His students have been recipients of scholarships from the state Sangeetha Nritya academy and the central government's Department of Culture (CCRT). Pulikeshi has also served as an executive committee member and secretary for the Karnataka Nrityakala Parishath and as an examiner for various dance board exams across Karnataka.
