Purnima Garg is an accomplished Kathak dancer and teacher based in Auckland, New Zealand. She is the co-founder and principal teacher of the Kathak Dance Company, established around 2023 in collaboration with Basant Madhur. The company, a subsidiary of Sargam School of Indian Music, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the authentic essence of Kathak, particularly the Jaipur Gharana. Purnima's training spans over 15 years in Kathak, including a decade at the National Institute of Kathak – Kathak Kendra, Delhi, India, where she earned a Diploma in Kathak (Hons). She trained under revered gurus from both the Lucknow and Jaipur gharanas, with a specific focus on the Jaipur style under Gurus Nandini Singh and Malti Shyam. Purnima has achieved academic distinction as a national topper in Kathak for three consecutive years and a university topper during her diploma studies. She believes in the transformative power of art to connect students to music, rhythm, stories, characters, and traditions, fostering growth and creativity. Her performances have graced stages in Delhi, India, and Auckland, New Zealand, including the Auckland Diwali festival in 2019.
