Rachana Joshi is an emerging dance artist based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Canada, with a strong foundation in Bharatanatyam. She commenced her Bharatanatyam training at a young age, culminating in her arangetram in 2017 after fourteen years of dedicated study under the guidance of renowned guru Lata Pada. Her academic pursuits further enriched her dance education, as she graduated with honors from York University's B.F.A program in Dance in 2019. During her university studies, Joshi also gained proficiency in various modern dance techniques, including Limon and Graham. Currently, Rachana Joshi is actively involved in the Canadian dance scene as a company dancer and teacher with Sampradaya Dance Creations and Academy. She is also a company dancer with Nova Dance, an organization that has supported her professional development. Her career has been further shaped by mentorship from figures like Nova Bhattacharya, for whom she served as a Staging Assistant for Citadel + Compagnie's production of "Red & Yellow" in 2019. She also participated in the Ukai Project's Migration Online Residency in 2020. In 2021, Joshi was selected for Peggy Baker Dance Project's ACTION LAB online, where she received choreographic mentorship to explore and develop her creative practice. Joshi is focused on expanding her choreographic skills, creating original dance works, and fostering multidisciplinary artistic collaborations. Her diverse training extends beyond Bharatanatyam to include Kallari, hip hop, Bollywood, improvisation techniques, and contemporary dance. In addition to her artistic roles, she contributes to the administrative side of the arts as the Box Office and Outreach Manager for Citadel + Compagnie, a position she has held since 2021. She also presented a solo performance titled "Moon Child" in November 2023, exploring the mythological and symbolic significance of the moon through Bharatanatyam and choreography.
