Pandit Rajendra Kumar Gangani is a renowned Indian classical Kathak dancer, guru, and choreographer, celebrated for his innovative style within the Jaipur Gharana. Born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, in 1966, he inherited a rich legacy as the scion of a family of hereditary Kathak dancers. His training in Kathak began at the tender age of four under the tutelage of his father, the legendary Kathak maestro Pandit Kundan Lal Gangani. He also received early guidance from his maternal uncle, Shri Narayan Prasad, for his first public performance at the age of eight. Gangani further honed his skills at the Kathak Kendra in Delhi, graduating in 1983-84. He joined the Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, on August 7, 1985, and has been serving as a Kathak Guru since September 1999, significantly contributing to the grooming of young dancers. An accomplished performer, Gangani has captivated audiences extensively across India and internationally, including Europe, the Middle East, Russia, the United States, Asia, and Africa. He is also a prolific choreographer, having created numerous group compositions and dance dramas such as 'Prakriti', 'Jhalak', 'Panchamukhi', 'Anadi-Anant', 'Layaangikam', 'Nrityarupa', 'Vedna' (on global warming), 'Leela Varnan', and 'Maharaas'. Beyond dance, he is proficient in playing the Pakhawaj, Tabla, and Harmonium. Pandit Rajendra Kumar Gangani is a torchbearer of the Jaipur Gharana, known for blending traditional techniques with innovative expressions. In 2024, he achieved a Guinness World Record by coordinating a performance with 1,484 Kathak dancers at the Khajuraho Dance Festival, demonstrating his commitment to promoting the art form on a massive scale. He founded the Gurukul Kundan Lal Gangani Foundation to preserve and propagate the heritage of the Jaipur Gharana.
