Rajyashree Ramesh is a distinguished dancer, teacher, choreographer, certified movement analyst, and movement science researcher specializing in classical Indian dance, primarily Bharatanatyam. Her early training in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, alongside vocal South Indian classical music (Carnatic), began in childhood in Bangalore and Chennai, India. She holds a Bachelor's degree in science from Bangalore University and a Master's degree in Socio-cultural Studies from Europa University Viadrina, Germany. In 2019, she completed her doctoral thesis, "Sensing and Shaping – the emotive-kinetic grounding of meaning. A cross-disciplinary analysis of Indian Dance Theatre," at Europa-University Viadrina. Her approach to dance is further enriched by a 30-year practice of Yoga and Western movement studies, including Middendorf Breathing Therapy and certification in Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analysis. Since moving to Berlin in 1977, Rajyashree Ramesh has established herself as a well-versed dancer and innovative choreographer. She is the Artistic Director of the Academy for Performing Arts and Dance Theatre Productions in Berlin. Over four decades, her pioneering teaching has focused on both the traditional vocabulary of Bharatanatyam and the broader educational potential of dance. She developed innovative teaching methodologies during a 14-year tenure at the Community College Berlin-Steglitz (1980s-1990s), which were later refined at her own Academy. Her pedagogical work extends to cross-cultural outreach projects, workshops in schools and museums, and professional training for actors and movement analysts. From 2011 to 2024, she served as Docent and Coordinator for Dance at the Global Music Academy Berlin. As a choreographer, she engages in interdisciplinary collaborations with international artists.
