🪔 About
Rakesh Sai Babu is a distinguished Indian classical dancer, primarily recognized for his mastery of Mayurbhanj Chhau, a martial and folk-classical dance form from Odisha. Born into a lineage of Chhau performers in Mayurbhanj, he is the grandson of the late Ananta Charan Sai Babu (1915-1989), who played a pivotal role in popularizing Mayurbhanj Chhau in pre- and post-Independence India. His father, Guru Janmejoy Sai Babu, also a renowned Sangeet Natak awardee, further nurtured his artistic journey. Rakesh Sai Babu, along with his brother Rajesh Sai Babu, continues to uphold and disseminate the classical Chhau technique. Based in New Delhi, Rakesh Sai Babu has extensively performed and conducted workshops on Chhau dance across India and internationally. He is empaneled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). He is the founder and director of the Trikayaa Dance Foundation, an institution that specializes in both Mayurbhanj Chhau and Bharatanatyam. His wife, Priya Srinivasan, an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer trained at Kalakshetra, Chennai, also contributes to the foundation. Rakesh Sai Babu's performances often draw from Indian mythology, incorporating yogic postures and traditional Chhau repertoire such as Dandi and Rook Mar Nacha (war dance). Awards & Honours: Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2018).
