Ramya Shanmugam is a dedicated Bharatanatyam artist, an inspiring teacher, and the visionary founder of Laya - Home of Dance, an institution based on the Gold Coast, Australia. Her profound journey into the world of Indian classical dance commenced at the tender age of four in Chennai, India, sparked by an innate love for performance and artistic expression. Ramya's foundational training in Bharatanatyam was meticulously guided by Guru Kalaimamani Smt. Saroja Kameswaran. She continues to refine her artistry and deepen her understanding of the form under the esteemed tutelage of Guru Kalaimamani Smt. Kavitha Charles, a distinguished disciple of the late Kalaimamani Smt. Indra Rajan, thereby upholding the rich traditions of the revered Pandanallur style. Having devoted more than two decades to the practice and study of Bharatanatyam, Ramya Shanmugam views this ancient art form as a powerful catalyst for personal development, instilling discipline, perseverance, resilience, humility, and self-confidence. Her commitment to dance runs parallel to a successful professional career, where she holds a leadership position within the Australian university sector.
