Rekha Babu is an accomplished Indian classical and semi-classical dancer proficient in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, and Kuchipudi. She has over 28 years of experience in these classical dance forms, both as a performer and a teacher. Rekha Babu received her early dance education, acquiring a Diploma in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, and Kuchipudi from the esteemed Regatta Natya Sangeetha Kendra, an institution recognized by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy. During her training at Regatta Natya Sangeetha Kendra, she was under the tutelage of Smt. Girija Chandran. Furthering her expertise, Rekha Babu pursued advanced studies in Kuchipudi under Smt. Geetha Krishnakumar, a disciple of the renowned Sri Vempati Chinna Sathyam. She also undertook advanced training in Bharatanatyam at the Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai. Additionally, she studied Kathakali under the guidance of Shri Nelliyodu Vasudevan Namboothiri. Throughout her career, Rekha Babu has performed at various locations across India, including Delhi, Pune, Kerala Kalamandalam Cheruthuruthi, KTDC festivals, and Soorya light & sound programs. She has also participated in the Golden Jubilee Festival by Regatta Natya Sangeetha Kendra. Her talent has been recognized with wins at various State and National level Youth festivals in India. As a dedicated instructor, Rekha Babu has trained students of diverse age groups. She was a classical dance tutor at the Indian Institute for Performing Arts (IIPA) from 2008 to 2010 and later rejoined the institution. She is known for her versatility as a dancer and instructor, emphasizing Abhinaya (expression) and correct posture while narrating the stories behind Keerthanams and Padams. She has also choreographed numerous classical and semi-classical performances for various programs and events both in India and abroad, and has conducted multiple Jugalbandhi fusions.
