🪔 About

Revanta Sarabhai, born on September 2, 1984, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, is a distinguished Indian classical dancer, choreographer, actor, and multimedia artist, known for being one of the few male Bharatanatyam soloists of his generation. He represents the third generation of the illustrious Sarabhai dance family, being the grandson of legendary Bharatanatyam dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai and pioneering physicist Vikram Sarabhai, and the son of renowned dancer and activist Mallika Sarabhai. Sarabhai received his foundational dance training from his grandmother, Mrinalini Sarabhai, and made his solo classical dance debut at the age of eight. His formal initiation into the dance world, his 'Aradhana' or 'Arengetram', took place when he was 14. He also trained in various folk, contemporary, and martial arts forms. He earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, and a master's degree in Performance & Creative Research from the University of Roehampton, London in 2011. After working as an independent dancer and choreographer in Europe, Sarabhai returned to India in 2014. From 2014 to 2017, he headed the arts education and training activities at the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts in Ahmedabad, an institution co-founded by his grandparents. He continues to be an internationally touring performer and choreographer, showcasing his work at prestigious festivals and venues across India, Europe, the UK, and the USA. Revanta Sarabhai is celebrated for his innovative approach to Bharatanatyam, combining traditional Pandanallur style with contemporary practice to address modern themes such as long-distance relationships, globalization, climate change, and casteism. He has also ventured into acting, making his feature film debut in 2017 and hosting the Gujarati dance reality show 'Naach Maari Saathe' in 2018.
