Rinjumoni Saikia is a distinguished Indian classical dancer, recognized as a leading Sattriya Guru, practitioner, choreographer, and research scholar of Sattriya dance and culture. She received intensive training from her father, the legendary Rasheswar Saikia Borbayan, a pivotal figure who brought Sattriya dance from the confines of monasteries to the public stage and pioneered teaching it to women. Rinjumoni Saikia, the younger daughter of the maestro, continues his profound legacy alongside her elder sister, Ranjumoni Saikia, through the institution their father founded, Sangeet Sattra. Her performances are noted for their technical skill and soulful expression. She has presented traditional Sattriya compositions such as the Krishna Bandana, including the Krishnashtakam set to raga Vrindavani Sarang and Sattriya taal Thukuni. Her repertoire also includes pure lasya compositions like the Ramdani of the rajaghariya chali, and Borgeet such as Krishnaroop barnan, composed by Madhavdeva. Rinjumoni Saikia has also impressed audiences with her abhinaya, particularly as Yashoda in the Barpetia theonaam (Jhuna Naam) piece. As a senior teacher and administrator at Sangeet Sattra in Guwahati, Assam, Rinjumoni Saikia has been instrumental in continuing the institution's mission since her father's passing in 2000. She also expanded her artistic range by studying Kathak under Guru Munna Shukla at Kathak Kendra, demonstrating her versatility in classical Indian dance forms. Her dedication to the art form and her role in preserving and promoting Sattriya dance solidify her position as a significant figure in Indian classical dance.
