🪔 About
Rohini Herur is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher, currently based in San Diego, USA. Her journey in Bharatanatyam commenced at the age of eight under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Vandya Srinath, the Artistic Director of Bhramara School of Bharathanatyam in Bengaluru, India. In 1998, Rohini Herur marked a significant milestone in her dance career by performing her 'Ranga Pravesha' (Arangetram) to critical acclaim. The same year, she successfully completed the Vidwath Examination conducted by the Government of Karnataka, which officially conferred upon her the credentials to teach Bharatanatyam. After relocating to the USA in 2000, Rohini Herur quickly established herself as a proficient artist, gracing various stages across San Diego. Her performances have been featured at notable venues such as the Museum of Man, the Mingei Museum, and the IFAASD Music & Dance Festival. In 2001, driven by her passion for the art form, she founded the Laasya School of Dance in San Diego, California. The school is dedicated to promoting Bharatanatyam, upholding the purity of its traditions while also incorporating contemporary approaches to dance. Rohini Herur is particularly noted for her excellence in 'Abhinaya,' the expressive aspect of Bharatanatyam, demonstrating a strong sense of rhythm and graceful movements. Under her guidance, students of Laasya School of Dance have also performed at various events and venues within the San Diego area, including the Kasturi Kannada Sangha San Diego and the San Diego Malayalee Association.
