🪔 About
Rohitha Kaimal is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer, whose foundational training took place primarily in the Dallas, Texas area. Her initial foray into Bharatanatyam began under the guidance of her first guru, Sujatha Vamadevan, followed by a period of study with Alpana Jacob. She subsequently became a dedicated and senior disciple of Smt. Satyavani Iswara, also known as Vani Iswara, under whose tutelage she has honed her skills for many years. Kaimal has also broadened her classical dance expertise, having trained in Kuchipudi for seven years with Padma Sonti and participated in Mohiniyattam workshops led by esteemed artists Kalamandalam Radhika and Sunanda Nair, demonstrating her passion for diverse Indian classical forms. Her early promise in dance was acknowledged with the Indian Cultural Heritage Foundation Scholarship, which she received at the age of 16. Throughout her career, Kaimal has been an active performer, gracing stages at various festivals. Notable performances include her participation in "Navapallava," an Indian classical dance festival presented by Sunandas Performing Arts Center in May 2020, and an appearance at the SoMU Youth Festival in September 2023. A significant highlight in her journey was her integral role in Smt. Vani Iswara's 100th Arangetram celebration in October 2025. At this landmark event, Kaimal, who herself was the 18th student to perform her arangetram under Vani Iswara, delivered a poignant tribute to her guru and showcased her choreographic talent by creating a surprise dance composition for a performance by Shraddha Siddhartha. This event also revealed her current residence in Illinois as of October 2025. Kaimal's commitment to the art form extends to "paying it forward through our teaching our dancing and the way that we live," indicating her dedication to perpetuating the legacy of Indian classical dance. Awards & Honours: Indian Cultural Heritage Foundation Scholarship (2011).
