Shrimati Sanjenbam Karuna Devi was born on August 31, 1981, in Lamsang, Manipur, India. She received her training in Manipuri dance from Shri Thingbaijam Babu Singh. She obtained a diploma and a post-diploma from the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy in Imphal. Karuna Devi is a recipient of scholarships from the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She is a graded artist of Prasar Bharati. She has participated in national and international seminars and festivals. In recognition of her talent, she was honored with the J.B. Patel Award by the Anjika Society for Manipuri Dance, Kolkata. In 2016, she was awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by the Sangeet Natak Akademi for her notable talent in the field of Manipuri dance.
