🪔 About

Sahana R. Maiya is an accomplished Indian classical dancer and theater artist primarily known for her Odissi performances, with a strong foundation in Bharatanatyam. She began her dance journey at the age of four, learning Bharatanatyam under Vidwan Keshav Kumar in Shimoga. She continued her Bharatanatyam training for approximately two decades at Kalakshiti in Bengaluru, under the guidance of Professor M.R. Krishnamurthy. During this period, she performed Bharatanatyam extensively across India. Her interest later gravitated towards Odissi, a classical dance form she initially studied with Guru Uday Kumar Shetty. Currently, Sahana R. Maiya is undergoing advanced training in Odissi at Nrityantar, a leading Odissi dance institution in Bengaluru, under the tutelage of the renowned Odissi dancer and choreographer, Guru Smt. Madhulita Mohapatra. She is recognized as one of the promising young talents in Odissi. Sahana R. Maiya performs regularly as a soloist and is also a prominent member of the acclaimed Nrityantar Dance Ensemble. Her performances have graced numerous prestigious national and international dance festivals, including the Nalanda festival, Sapthabhangi National Dance Festival, Taj Mahotsav, Dhauli-Kalinga Festival, Vasanthotsava in Germany, and Utkal Divas in Bahrain. She also engages in collaborative projects, blending various Indian classical and folk art forms, and is involved in theater productions, such as "Shakthi" and "Shiva Tantra," where she contributes to the choreographic design. Sahana R. Maiya also imparts her knowledge by teaching Odissi classes to both adults and children in Bengaluru. Awards & Honours: Malenadina Mayuri (1999), Prathibha Puraskara.
