Sahira Singh is an emerging Kuchipudi dancer who formally entered the professional realm of Indian classical dance with her Rangapravesham in October 2024. Her profound journey in Kuchipudi commenced at the age of four, when she enrolled in Natya Tarangini, a distinguished institute of performing arts located in New Delhi. Over a dedicated period of twelve years, Sahira underwent rigorous training under the esteemed guidance of Padma Bhushan Drs. Raja and Radha Reddy, along with Smt. Kaushalya Reddy. These legendary gurus were instrumental in her artistic development, nurturing her not only as a performer but also as an individual. From Dr. Raja Reddy, she absorbed focus and technical clarity; from Dr. Radha Reddy, she learned compassion, courage, and perseverance; and from Smt. Kaushalya Reddy, she gained a sharp eye for detail and a love for the stage. This comprehensive tutelage instilled in her discipline, humility, and joy, transforming her initial curiosity into a purposeful pursuit. Her unwavering dedication and years of intensive practice culminated in her Kuchipudi Rangapravesham, a significant milestone symbolizing a dancer's formal transition into professional artistry. This event was held at the prestigious Kamani Auditorium in New Delhi and was meticulously curated by her gurus. Sahira's debut showcased her mastery of the Kuchipudi dance form through a rich and varied repertoire. Her performance commenced with the customary Ganapati Vandana, an invocation to Lord Ganesha, followed by a dramatic and expressive portrayal of the Dashavatara, the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu, where she skillfully wove together bhava (emotion) and taal (rhythm). She also presented "Chhaap Tilak Sab Cheeni," a devotional piece by Amir Khusro, demonstrating graceful control and emotional depth. A highlight of her recital was the dynamic "Tarangam," a traditional Kuchipudi composition in praise of Lord Krishna, during which Sahira performed the iconic Thali dance, balancing on the edge of a brass plate while executing intricate rhythmic steps. The event garnered significant attention, graced by distinguished guests including the Hon'ble Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, and other prominent personalities, highlighting the cultural importance of her debut. Sahira expressed profound gratitude to her gurus and family for their steadfast support, eagerly anticipating new explorations in her burgeoning dance career.
