Sandip Mallick is an internationally acclaimed Kathak exponent, teacher, and choreographer from Kolkata, India. Born into a family devoted to music, he began his Kathak training at the age of four under Srimati Srilekha Mukherjee of the Lucknow gharana, receiving 25 years of tutelage from her. He further honed his skills through in-depth "talim" (training) from several luminaries in Indian classical dance, including Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Ram Mohan Mishra, Pandit Chitresh Das, Guru Bela Arnab, Guru Bandana Sen, Srimati Saswati Sen, and Pandit Vijai Shankar. Mallick also received rhythm training from Pandit Kumar Bose. Academically, Sandip Mallick holds a first-class Post Graduate degree in Dance from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, and a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons.) from the University of Calcutta. He is an auditioned artist of Doordarshan and an empanelled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). His expertise has led him to serve as an external examiner at Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, and Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. Mallick founded his own institution, NADAM (Nataraj Academy of Dance and Music), in Sonarpur, Kolkata, in 1993, where he has been teaching Kathak dance. He also served as a senior teacher at PADATIK from 2003 and as a Kathak instructor at The Heritage School, Kolkata, from 2005. He regularly conducts Kathak workshops across India and internationally in countries like the UK, Canada, Singapore, Czech Republic, Italy, and Germany. As a performer, Sandip Mallick has graced numerous prestigious dance festivals in India, including those organized by the West Bengal State Music Academy, ICCR, Sangeet Natak Academy, Kathak Kendra, and the Dover Lane Music Conference. Internationally, he has performed in the UK, Italy, Czech Republic, Germany, Canada, and Singapore since 2002. He participated as a soloist in the international Kathak festival "Kathak at Cross Road" in San Francisco, USA, in September 2006, alongside renowned dancers like Pt. Birju Maharaj and Pt. Chitresh Das. He has also collaborated with Flamenco dance companies, such as Sujata Dance Company, London, and performed as a lead artist in the "Namaste Greetings" project under the Annapurna Indian Dance Company, Yorkshire. Sandip Mallick is also a prolific choreographer, having created group ballets like "Khoj," "Ananta Prabha," "Alingan," "Nritya Darpan," and "Boond". His solo choreographic presentations, such as "Upalabdhi," "Suddh," "Purush," and "Shanti Bhavna," have received critical acclaim for blending spirituality, philosophy, and traditional Kathak. He has also developed 64 types of basic movements and steps for Kathak students. Since 2011, he has been organizing the "Pratishruti" festival to promote classical music and dance.
