Sangeeta Venkitt

Sangeeta Venkitt was born into a traditional Indian classical dance family. Her mother, the late Smt. Uma Venkitt, was a Bharatanatyam dancer, and her father was Guru Sri Kalamandalam V. R. Venkitt, an acclaimed exponent of Kathakali and Bharatanatyam. Sangeeta began her Bharatanatyam training at the age of five under the guidance of her father, Guru Sri Kalamandalam Venkitt, and her stepmother, Guru Smt. Preetha Venkitt. She furthered her training in Mohiniattam under Guru Smt. Preetha Venkitt and Guru Smt. Kalamandalam Padmini. Her Kathakali education was imparted by Guru Sri Kalamandalam Venkitt and Guru Sri Kalamandalam Murali. Academically, Sangeeta Venkitt pursued a Masters in Performing Arts, specializing in Bharatanatyam, from Hyderabad Central University, where she was mentored by Guru Sri Pasumarthi Ramalinga Sastry. Her performance career includes participation in the internationally recognized 'Swan Lake' production, directed by the renowned Mohiniattam dancer Guru Smt. Bharati Shivaji, with performances in cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, and Russia. She contributed to Uma Memorial Kalalayam in Kolkata, an institution founded and run by her parents, where she assisted in student training and participated in various dance productions. After relocating to Singapore, Sangeeta Venkitt joined Apsaras Arts as a full-time Stage Performer and Dance Instructor. During her tenure there, she received mentorship from Smt. Neila Sathyalingam, Sri Aravinth Kumaraswamy, and Sri Mohanapriyan Thavarajah, and was involved in notable productions such as "Anjasa", "Alapadma", "Sita's Magical Forest", "Heroines of Raja Ravi Varma", "Aadum Arul Jyothi", and "Agathi". Currently, Sangeeta Venkitt resides in Morphettville, South Australia, and is associated with Uma Memorial Kalalayam Adelaide.
