Sangita Phukon is an accomplished and versatile Sattriya artist from Guwahati, Assam, India, recognized as one of the country's leading young soloists. She dedicated herself to dance from a young age, completing her Sattriya dance course under the tutelage of Padmashree Nrityacharya Jatin Goswami. Phukon also received training in Bharatnatyam from Guru Pronamika Das and further honed her knowledge of Abhinaya from Guru Anita Sharma. Additionally, she learned Deodhani Dance from Lalit Ch. Nath Oja and Guru Gunakar Dev Goswami. Phukon holds an Arts Graduate degree from Gauhati University and a B. Mus in both Sattriya and Bharatnatyam. Her commitment to the art form is further evidenced by her scholarship in Sattriya, obtained under her guru's guidance as part of a Sangeet Natak Akademi project on 'Sattriya Dance & Music'. She is also an empanelled solo artist of the I.C.C.R.. Beyond her performance career, Sangita Phukon is a dedicated educator. She has been a dance teacher at the Sarla Birla Gyan Joyti School since 2007. With a vision to nurture young talent, she founded the Ghunguru Dance Academy in Guwahati, which specializes in Sattriya and Bharatnatyam. The academy is located in Kahilipara, Guwahati. In 2011, Phukon initiated the 'Brahmaputra Mahotsav', a national dance and music festival, demonstrating her efforts to promote and develop the arts. She also performs various folk dances of Assam, including Bihu, Jhumur, Boro, Karbi, and Mishing. Awards & Honours: Scholarship in Sattriya.
