Dr. Sarita Venkatraman is a passionate practitioner, teacher, and choreographer of Indian classical dance, primarily Bharatanatyam, based in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex, USA. Her dance journey began in Mumbai, India, where she received her initial Bharatanatyam training under Guru Shri Mani, director of Kalasadan. She also pursued Kathak under Smt. Guru Asha Joglekar in Mumbai. In 1995, Venkatraman moved to Dallas as a graduate student at the University of Texas at Dallas, where she pursued a Doctoral degree in Space Sciences. Her passion for dance led her to resume her Bharatanatyam training in Dallas under Guru Smt. Revathi Satyu at the Arathi School of Dance. She performed her Arangetram in 2003, guided by Smt. Revathi Satyu and Smt. Latha Shrivatsa. Since then, she has continued to refine her artistry through workshops and guidance from renowned dance exponents such as Smt. Kalanidhi Narayan, Kalaimamani Smt. Priyadarsini Govind, Smt. Padmini Ravi, Smt. Nirupama and Shri Rajendra, Smt. Vasundhara Doraiswamy, and Dr. Seshadri Iyengar. Dr. Venkatraman has been a dedicated teacher at the Arathi School of Dance for several years, where her students have performed extensively across the DFW metroplex. She is also a founding member of the Indique Dance Company (IDC) in Dallas, established in June 2008, which aims to blend contemporary themes with classical Indian dance vocabulary. Additionally, she is the artistic co-director of Mudras in Motion, an initiative focused on using arts as therapy for underserved communities. In recognition of her contributions as an outstanding dancer and guru, she was honored with the prestigious title of "Nritya Darshini" by Kalaimamani Smt. Priyadarsini Govind in 2019.
