K.V. Satyanarayana, born on September 26, 1957, is a distinguished Indian classical dancer, choreographer, lyricist, movie dance director, and composer, primarily known for his mastery of Kuchipudi. His early life saw him develop a profound passion for dance, particularly inspired by the character of Satyabhama. He pursued a B.Com degree and, in 1974, co-founded the cultural institute Kala Bharathi. Satyanarayana received his training from eminent gurus including Bharthakalaprpoorna Sri Korada Narashimha Rao, Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, and Kulapathi Sri Vadhantham Prahalada Sarma, with Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, a renowned Kuchipudi reformer, significantly shaping his artistic journey. Driven by a commitment to propagate Kuchipudi, he established the Sri Satya Kuchipudi and Janapada Nritya Academy in Eluru, India, in 1982, providing comprehensive training in both classical and folk dance forms. Expanding his reach internationally, he founded the Satya Kuchipudi Academy in the USA in 1989. Since then, he has extensively toured and taught Kuchipudi across the United States, the UK, Canada, and Singapore, conducting numerous workshops and captivating audiences with his performances. His dedication to the art form led to his appointment as "asthana natyacharya" for the Sri Lakshmi Narayana temple in Youngstown, Ohio, and the Sri Shiridi Sai Baba temple in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Beyond the stage, Satyanarayana has made significant contributions to Indian cinema as a dance director, choreographing for acclaimed films such as "Sruthilayalu," "Swarnakamalam," "Sutradharulu," and "Swathikiranam." His work on "Sruthilayalu" earned him the prestigious Nandi Award for Best Choreography in 1988 and the Bharata Muni Award in both 1989 and 1990. He is also a composer, with popular dance audio cassettes like "Kuchipudi Natya Sowrabhalu Part-1" and "Part 2" to his credit, and an author of books on folk dance. Satyanarayana's multifaceted career reflects his unwavering devotion to preserving and promoting Indian classical arts and culture globally.
