Shalmali Zankar is an accomplished Indian classical dancer, choreographer, and teacher specializing in Kathak. She has dedicated over two decades to her training, studying extensively under the tutelage of Guru Manisha Jeet. Zankar is recognized for her contributions to Kathak, having been honored with the CCRT scholarship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and the Kalanaipunya Puraskar by Uttung Pratishthan. Her career highlights include serving as the Rehearsal Director for the acclaimed production "Mughal-E-Azam." Based in Mumbai, India, Shalmali Zankar is an active performer, participating in significant cultural events such as the Serendipity Arts Festival in 2023, where she presented "Vitthala's Voice: Shalmali Zankar Dance." She has also been featured in reports by Narthaki for her performances, including "Shabdh: An ode unto the word" in 2022. Beyond performing, Zankar is passionate about teaching and has founded her own dance school, "Imperfect Taal," which began offering Kathak-based semi-classical dance workshops around February 2021. Her teaching philosophy aims to make classical dance accessible and enjoyable for students of all ages and levels, offering both in-person and online classes.
