Shama Krishna, also known as Shama Sanjay, is a prominent Indian classical dancer hailing from Bangalore, India. She is the daughter of Sri Venkata Krishna and Smt Savita Krishna. Shama holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. Her journey in classical dance began at the age of seven with Bharatanatyam training under Guru Kalamanadalam Smt. Usha Datar. She successfully completed her Proficiency level examination in Bharatanatyam and further honed her skills under the tutelage of Guru Smt Narmada and Guru Bhanumati. Shama performed her Arangetram on January 1, 2000, in Bangalore. Her dedication to the art form led her to pursue intensive training in Karanas from the Natya Shastra under Guru Smt. Sundari Santhanam, a direct disciple of Dr. Padma Subramanyam. She also holds a Master's degree in Bharatanatyam from Sastra University, Tanjore, under the guidance of Dr. Padma Subramanyam. Beyond Bharatanatyam, Shama is a well-known Kuchipudi performer, having been trained by Karnataka Kalashree Guru Smt. Veena Murthy Vijay. She received additional insights and training in Kuchipudi from traditional Gurus such as Raja Reddy, Vedantam Venkatanaga Chalapathi, Pasumarti Rathiah Sharma, and Vedantam Radhe Shyam. Her performance of "Bhamakalapam," a significant feature of Kuchipudi, has garnered critical acclaim. Shama Krishna is an A-grade artist of Doordarshan in both Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi and an empanelled artist of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations in Kuchipudi dance. She co-directs the Shivapriya School of Dance in Bangalore with her husband, Sanjay Shantaram. She has performed at numerous prestigious dance festivals across India and has toured internationally, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Oman, Switzerland, and the Andaman Islands. Awards & Honours: National-level scholarship, Aryabhata Award for Upcoming Dancers, Winner at the 15th Yuva Sangeetha Nrithya Mahotsav, Best Actress award, Yuvakala Prathibha award, Kalayogi Puraskar, Vocational Award for service rendered to Society through art.
