🪔 About

Sharvari Ashok Jamenis is a celebrated Indian Kathak dancer, choreographer, teacher, and institution head, also recognized for her work as an actress and television personality. Born on May 29, 1977, in Pune, India, she began her Kathak training at the age of seven at the Nrityabharati Kathak Dance Academy. Her profound journey in dance truly began at 15 when she started receiving direct tutelage from the legendary Guru Dr. Rohini Bhate, who became her lifelong mentor. Jamenis pursued higher education in dance, earning both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Kathak from Savitribai Phule Pune University's (SPPU) Centre for Performing Arts (Lalit Kala Kendra), where she achieved first rank in her Master's in 1995-1996. Her career spans over 25 years, during which she has performed extensively across India and internationally, including notable appearances at the Khajuraho Dance Festival (2004), Hampi Utsav (2006), and a significant performance at the Sydney Opera House in 2013, making her only the third Indian woman after Asha Bhosle and A.R. Rahman to perform there. In 2010, Sharvari Jamenis founded the Sharvari Jamenis Dance Company in Pune, where she continues to nurture and train students of all ages, from children as young as six to adults. She is known for her ability to blend classical poise with contemporary storytelling in her performances and choreography, which has also extended to Marathi films like 'Bayo', 'Maai Baap', and 'Paash'. Beyond dance, Jamenis made a powerful debut in Marathi cinema with 'Bindhaast' in 1999 and has appeared in several other films, including the Hindi film 'Paheli'. Awards & Honours: Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2008), Nargis Dutt Puraskar (1999), P.L.
