Shaswati Basu is a dedicated Kathak dancer and the visionary founder of Aarambhik School of Dance. Her journey in Kathak spans over 15 years, during which she completed the Classical Dance Development Program from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, India, under the tutelage of Guru Paresh Das. Her commitment to the art form remains strong, as she continues to refine her skills and knowledge under the guidance of her esteemed mentors, Guru Pandita Archana Joglekar Ji and Guru Sandip Bose Ji. Having moved to the United States more than a decade ago, Shaswati Basu has established herself as a prominent Kathak figure in the Boston area. She actively performs and choreographs at various dance events across the region. Notably, in 2016, she contributed her choreographic talents to a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Her expertise is also recognized through her role as a judge in numerous dance competitions held in the Boston area. At the core of Shaswati Basu's teaching philosophy is the belief that Kathak offers dancers a profound sense of freedom, allowing for organic and unconstrained choreography. She brings this philosophy into every class and every piece of choreography she creates. This principle guides her instruction at Aarambhik School of Dance, which provides comprehensive Kathak training to students ranging from 6 years old to adults. Aarambhik, meaning "the beginning," was founded on the belief that every dancer's journey starts with a single step, a single beat, and aims to be a home where tradition meets heart, and classical Kathak is taught with love and reverence. The school, under her leadership, is affiliated with the Samved Conservatory of Indian Classical Dance and Music, an organization responsible for conducting classical arts examinations throughout North America, ensuring a structured and recognized learning path for her students. Aarambhik School of Dance operates across multiple locations in Massachusetts, including Shrewsbury, Burlington, and Foxborough.
