Shilpa Sethuraman

Shilpa Sethuraman is an accomplished Indian classical dancer specializing in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. Born in the United States, she began her dance journey at the age of two and a half, making her maiden stage appearance at three and regularly performing with her mother, Guru Smt. Madhusri Sethuraman, from the age of four. She received her Bharatanatyam training under her mother and performed her Arangetram in July 2000 in Chennai, India, at the age of eight. In 2001, she expanded her repertoire by learning Kuchipudi under Guru Padma Sonti, completing her Kuchipudi Rangapravesam in September 2007 at sixteen, making her one of the youngest to complete graduation performances in two different dance styles. Sethuraman has given over 250 performances worldwide over 25 years, including at the World Bharatanatyam Conference in Chicago (2001) and the Rangoli festival in California (2002). She performed for A. R. Rahman in 2005 and gave a solo performance for the Yuva Bharati chapter of Dallas in 2011. Her performances have garnered critical acclaim, with "The Hindu" calling her a keen student of dance and "News Today" praising her as "Young Kamala in the making." Beyond performing, Shilpa co-founded the Charity through Art (CHAART) Foundation in 2008, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for various charities through multicultural dance performances. Academically, Shilpa Sethuraman holds a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. She currently works as a Brand Manager in General Mills and resides in Minneapolis, continuing to pursue her passion for dance.
