Showmi Das is a versatile Kathak dancer, choreographer, director, writer, actress, puppeteer, model, and TV/stage presenter based in the UK. She received her Kathak training under Jayashree Acharya, a senior disciple of the world-renowned Pandit Birju Maharaj. In addition to Kathak, she has also trained in Bangladeshi Folk dance and has foundational knowledge in Bharatnatyam, Manipuri, Odissi, and Western Contemporary dance forms. Das has been actively involved in the arts and entertainment sector globally. She is a senior dancer and has been associated with the Sujata Banerjee Dance Company (SBDC) for over 25 years, contributing as a company dance member, teacher, and administrative assistant. She has been part of SBDC's teaching faculty for the past 15 years. Showmi Das is also the Director of The Rokeya Project, an arts education and learning initiative that primarily uses dance and theatre to raise awareness about issues faced by women in society. The Rokeya Project focuses its work within the Borough of Tower Hamlets, where it has presented an annual production for the Season of Bangla Drama for the last five years. Her work extends to collaborations, such as her involvement with Shobana Jeyasingh Dance for their engagement project, "Window into the Tempest," where her students performed a curtain raiser.
