Shree Savani is a British Bharatanatyam dancer known for her contemporary approach to the classical Indian dance form. Hailing from Leicestershire, UK, she gained national recognition as the winner of the South Asian Dance category in the BBC Young Dancer competition in 2019. Savani's performances blend traditional Bharatanatyam movements with modern narratives, making ancient Indian mythology relatable to younger audiences. Her choreography often explores themes relevant to young women, such as the intimate relationship between a mother and daughter, and has delved into taboo subjects like death, which is unusual in Indian Classical dance. Savani's training in Bharatanatyam has been under the guidance of her teacher, Pagya Lakshmi Pagyaka. Her career highlights include performing at prestigious venues such as the Birmingham Hippodrome. In 2021, she was also part of the cast for Seeta Patel's 'Rite of Spring' tour, showcasing her versatility and ability to adapt Bharatanatyam to reimagined contexts. She has performed a traditional Bharatanatyam piece called 'Devi', based on Shakti, the female embodiment of power, bringing goddesses of ancient stories to life.
