Shri Ashish R Tanjorkar is a distinguished Bharatanatyam guru and a fifth-generation artist of the esteemed Tanjore Nritya Gharana, carrying forward a legacy that introduced Bharatanatyam from Tamil Nadu to Gujarat and other parts of India and abroad. He is the grandson of the legendary Nattuvanar Guruvarya Kubernathji Tanjorkar and the son of Guru Shri Ramesh Kubernath Tanjorkar and Guru Smt. Leela Ramesh Tanjorkar, both accomplished in Bharatanatyam. Ashish R Tanjorkar began his dance training at a very young age under the tutelage of his grandfather, learning fundamental adavus, expressions, and core Nattuvangam, the art of conducting a dance performance. He is also a skilled vocalist. Despite holding academic degrees including an MBA, PGDBM, and M.com, he chose to dedicate his life to the propagation of Bharatanatyam globally. He is actively involved in leading the family's institutions: the Tanjore Nritya Shala, established in 1982, and the Tanjore Dance Music and Art Research Centre, a public trust founded in 1993. Ashish R Tanjorkar has performed and conducted workshops internationally in various countries, including Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and Taiwan. During the 2020 lockdown, he innovatively adapted to online teaching, reaching his 320 students across academies in Vadodara, Vapi, and Silvassa, as well as former students in the UK and US.
