🪔 About

Dr. Shriya Srinivasan is a distinguished Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and the co-founder and co-artistic director of the Anubhava Dance Company. She received her Bharatanatyam training from her mother and guru, Sujatha Srinivasan, who is the Artistic Director of Shri Kalaa Mandir. Shriya Srinivasan is celebrated for her dynamic stage presence, expressive capacity, and her ability to seamlessly blend intricate *nritta* (pure dance) with elegant grace. Srinivasan has performed extensively across the United States and India, gracing renowned stages such as the Madras Music Academy, Narada Gana Sabha, and the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana. She co-founded the Anubhava Dance Company in 2015 with Joshua George, a collective of Indian-American Bharatanatyam dancers and musicians dedicated to presenting traditional Indian classical arts with a contemporary perspective. Through Anubhava Dance Company, she has co-choreographed and directed acclaimed productions that explore modern themes, including "Vivarta: Transformations" (on environmental conservation), "Manas: The Charioteer Within," and "Samayam: A moment in Eternity." Her work often integrates current social issues with the classical Indian art form, demonstrating Bharatanatyam as a living and evolving system. Beyond her artistic endeavors, Dr. Srinivasan holds a doctoral degree in medical engineering and medical physics from the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program and is an assistant professor of bioengineering at Harvard University, where she leads the Biohybrid Organs and Neuroprosthetics (BIONICS) lab. She uniquely blends her scientific and artistic expertise, teaching workshops on the biomechanics of dance and researching the intersection of these disciplines. She is also a Carnatic vocalist, having trained under Guru Madurai R. Sundar. Awards & Honours: First Prize, Bharatanatyam Competition (2009), Delsys Prize, Lemelson-MIT Student Prize, Forbes 30 Under 30, MIT Technology Review Innovator Under 35, Optimist International District Oratorical Contest (2008).
