Shruti Chandra Gupta is a distinguished Indian classical Kathak dancer and artist, recognized for her groundbreaking performances and contributions to both dance and visual arts. Born on August 15, 1987, in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, she received her initial training in art at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi. She further pursued her professional degree in Indian Classical Dance, specializing in Kathak, from Punjabi University in Patiala. Her Kathak journey was guided by her guru, Guru Rajendra. Gupta is a multiple world record holder, notably for performing Kathak dance at the highest altitudes. She first achieved a Limca Book of Records entry on October 18, 2015, by performing Kathak for seven minutes at Baralacha Pass (17,198 feet) in Himachal Pradesh. She subsequently broke her own record on October 27, 2016, by performing Kathak for 20 minutes at Khardungla (18,380 feet) in sub-zero temperatures. These performances were dedicated to raising the spirit of the Indian Armed Forces and spreading messages of peace, unity, and nature conservation. Her artistic endeavors, particularly her painting, are deeply influenced by her four decades of engagement with Kathak dance, treating her canvases like a stage and incorporating rhythmic movement and vibrant colors. She has been honored with numerous accolades for her work in both art and culture. These include the All India award of the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society in 1986 and 1995, a Cultural Scholarship for Painting by the Government of India from 1984 to 1987, and a Junior Fellowship by the Department of Culture, Government of India in 1991. She also received the National award by the Lalit Kala Akademi in 2005, the Taj Gaurav award in 2008, and was honored by the PHD Chambers of Commerce in 2019. In recognition of her exceptional achievements, Punjabi University honored her in 2016, and she received the "Most Influential Women" award from the Brijbhoomi Foundation in 2026. She has also been personally honored by the Prime Minister of India. Her recent solo exhibitions, such as 'Where Does the Mind Stop and the World Begin' at Sridharani Gallery in 2026, showcase her evolution from figurative realism to abstract symbolism, reflecting her philosophical and spiritual insights.
