Shruti Sriram received her early training in Carnatic vocal music from her grandmother, Kalpakam Balasubrahmanian, and in Bharatanatyam from her mother, Pushkala Gopal. She furthered her vocal studies with Sangeeta Kalanidhi D.K. Pattammal in Chennai and continues her vocal training under Sri Rajkumar Bharathi. Additionally, she received seven years of violin training from Sri Nagaraja, a prime disciple of the late Sri Lalgudi Jayaraman. Shruti Sriram completed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram in 1993 in Chennai, under the tutelage of Kala Acharyas Padmabhushan Srimathi Shanta and Sri V.P. Dhananjayan, founders of Bharatakalanjali. During her time in Chennai, she won prizes at various inter-school, collegiate cultural events, and sabha competitions. She performed during the December festival season at venues such as Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Karthik Fine Arts, and Bharat Kalachar, and was featured on the National Indian TV channel Doordarshan's – Adal Arangam, a series dedicated to Indian dance. Between 1990 and 1994, Shruti Sriram performed with the Dhananjayans in acclaimed theatre productions including Ramantakam, Sri Thyagaraja Vaibhavam, and Bharatakalanjali's Tasher Desh. She also participated in the Mahabalipuram festival in 1994. Shruti Sriram has worked with Mudralaya (UK), where she was the lead female dancer in their production “Secret of Life.” She began teaching and training students for their arangetrams with Mudralaya in 1995, and has provided vocal support for numerous arangetrams in the UK and Europe since then. In 2000, she founded her own institution, SANSKRITI:, in Minnesota, USA, successfully training over 60 pupils in both dance and music by 2003. Since 2006, Shruti Sriram has been established in England as a professional artist and teacher. She currently teaches Bharatanatyam (in the Kalakshetra style) and Carnatic vocal music in London, where Sanskriti: is now based. The institution has more than 150 pupils in East London, who are trained for ISTD dance examinations, arangetrams, and regular local performances. Her students are regular performers at public events and have won several music and dance competitions at the Croydon Music Festival and Sivan Isai Fine Arts (India). Shruti Sriram continues to perform internationally as a dancer and vocalist for Arangetrams.
