Simran Godhwani is an internationally acclaimed Kathak dancer, teacher, and choreographer based in Bengaluru, India. She is the founder and creative director of Krshala Dance Theatre in Koramangala, a prominent Kathak dance school dedicated to preserving and promoting the classical art form. Godhwani's training in Indian classical dance began at a young age, learning Bharatanatyam for 17 years before specializing in Kathak, which she has pursued professionally for over 15 years as of 2019. She is a senior disciple of Guru Murari Sharan Gupta, who is a leading disciple of the legendary Kathak maestro Pt. Birju Maharaj. Godhwani has also trained directly under Pt. Birju Maharaj through various workshops and has featured in his choreography. Known for her technique, poise, subtlety, and characteristic energy, Simran Godhwani has given numerous solo and group performances at prestigious dance festivals across India and internationally, including the US, France, Dubai, and Greece. She has collaborated with various international artists, exploring fusions with dance forms like flamenco, ballet, and contemporary dance. Beyond performing, Godhwani is a dedicated educator, conducting workshops and lecture demonstrations in schools and corporate settings globally. She is also the author of "Kathak Sutra," a book exploring the philosophy, discipline, and spiritual depth of Kathak. Her life story has been featured in the book "Turning Points of Uncommon People". She left a corporate HR career to pursue her passion for Kathak full-time.
