Sinam Basu Singh is a distinguished exponent of Manipuri classical dance, hailing from Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak, Imphal West, Manipur, India. Born into a family deeply rooted in the performing arts, he is the paternal grandson of the renowned Meitei Pung (Manipuri Classical Drum) player, Shri Sinam Bokul Singh, and the maternal grandson of Moirangthem Mangi Singh, an eminent Manipuri Nata-Sankirtana Singer. His early training was nurtured by Gurus N. Tiken Singh, W. Lokendrajit Singh, and Y. Hemantakumar. Basu Singh holds a diploma from the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal, and furthered his education with a first-class Master's degree in Manipuri dance from Visva-Bharati University. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in dance from the same university, demonstrating his commitment to both performance and academic research in the art form. Beyond Manipuri dance, he has also delved into various other art forms, including Thang-Ta (Manipuri Martial Art), Pung Cholom, Kartal Cholom, Pena, Mime, Natasankirtan, and folk songs. Throughout his career, Sinam Basu Singh has garnered significant acclaim for his graceful, lyrical, and powerful performances, as well as his innovative choreographies. His notable choreographic works include "Geet Govindam," "Sarasa Vasante," "Kamdev Nartan," "Shiva Panchakshara," and "Classical Production 2016." He has performed extensively across India and internationally, gracing prestigious stages in countries such as Bangladesh, Malaysia, Australia, Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Greece, and Rome, thereby promoting Indian classical dance globally. Recognized as an "A" grade artist by National Doordarshan, Delhi, and empanelled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Basu Singh is a prominent figure in the Indian classical dance scene. He is the founder director of 'Manipuri Nritya Mandir,' a performing unit dedicated to Manipuri dance and music, and also serves as a choreographer for the "Progressive Artist Laboratory" (PAL). His contributions to the art form have been acknowledged with numerous awards, most notably the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in 2012 from the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
