Smt. Lavanya Gopal is a distinguished Bharathanatyam artist, performer, choreographer, and dedicated guru, serving as the Artistic Director of Kalanityam School of Bharathanatyam. She began her Bharathanatyam journey at the age of six and made her solo debut in Thirkovilur at the age of ten. Her extensive training includes tutelage under eminent gurus Smt. Rukmini Srinivasan, Smt. Ananthalakshmi Natarajan, and Smt. Padmini Ravi. Lavanya's artistic pursuits extend beyond Bharathanatyam; she also studied Carnatic music for eight years under Smt. Vijayavalli Rajagopalan and mastered Nattuvangam under Kalaimamani Uma Dandayudhapani Pillai and Dr. Panruti D. Suresh. She further honed her skills in Bharathanrityam and Chitra Nrithyam with Smt. Anuradha Vikranth, a direct disciple of Dr. Padma Subramanyam. Smt. Lavanya Gopal established herself in the U.S. in 2003, continuing her dance journey there. She joined Smt. Selvi Pragasam at Kalanityam in 2008, and together they co-established Kalanityam Natyalaya in 2012, a premier institution dedicated to teaching Bharathanatyam in the traditional Kalakshetra style. As a choreographer, she has created thematic productions such as Bhaktha Prahalada, Dasavatharam, Srinivasa Kalyanam, and Thiruppugazh. Her performances in iconic roles like Krishna in Jayadeva's Ashtapadi and Andal in Thiruppavai have earned her widespread acclaim. In 2017, Lavanya co-founded InFUSE Education Services with Selvi Pragasam, a non-profit initiative that supports neurodiverse children through performing arts, fostering social skills and confidence. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce, a Postgraduate degree in Marketing Management, and a Master's degree in Sanskrit. Her dedication to propagating Bharathanatyam was recognized when she was selected as the U.S. Cultural Ambassador for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in 2021.
