Sri Thina Subramaniam is an internationally acclaimed Bharatanatyam and Odissi dancer, educator, choreographer, and artistic leader. Her artistic journey began in 1988 at the Temple of Fine Arts, Malaysia, where she received training in Bharatanatyam from Vasuki Sivanesan and Shyamala Narayanan, and Odissi from Geetha Sankaran Lam. She has also explored other dance forms, including Kathak, Bollywood, and folk dance. Subramaniam's work is characterized by its focus on championing diversity in the arts and inspiring individuals from various backgrounds. She is recognized for her innovative approach to Bharatanatyam and Odissi, often exploring the interplay and fusion of these two distinct classical styles. Throughout her career, Sri Thina has collaborated with notable figures and companies globally, including Mavin Khoo, rehearsal director at Akram Khan Company, and Shobana Jeyasingh. Her performances have graced prestigious international venues such as Lincoln Center in the USA, and the Royal Opera House and Buckingham Palace in the UK. After moving to the United States, she has taken on significant leadership roles, including artistic director, rehearsal director, and stage manager for various productions. She has also been instrumental in producing, collaborating on, and curating numerous festivals, such as the San Francisco West Wave Dance Festival, Drive East Festival in New York, and The Varnam Salon in New York. She serves as the Artistic Director of the Temple of Fine Arts (USA) and is the founder of Kala Collective, both dedicated to promoting cultural education and expanding access to Indian classical arts. A cornerstone of her work is fostering young talent, involving emerging dancers, composers, musicians, and performance directors in her creative processes. Her choreographic repertoire includes works like “Broken Seeds,” “Ravana,” and “4 Horsemen” with Nava Dance Theatre, as well as “When Eyes Speak” and other pieces with Jiva Performing Arts.
