Srilatha Suri is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, renowned for her profound contributions to Kuchipudi and her dedication to preserving and propagating Indian classical arts. Her artistic journey spans over six decades, marked by passion, innovation, and adherence to tradition. She received her initial training in Bharatanatyam under Guru Smt. Jayalakshmi Narayan for seven years. Later, she became a senior disciple of the internationally acclaimed Padma Shree Dr. Sobha Naidu, under whom she received advanced training in Kuchipudi. Srilatha Suri holds a Masters in Kuchipudi from Silicon Andhra University. As a performer, Srilatha Suri has given over 700 solo performances and participated in more than 500 Kuchipudi solo and group performances. Her extensive performance career includes tours across India, the United States, and Trinidad and Tobago in 1985 with her guru. She is the visionary founder and artistic director of Natyanjali Kuchipudi Dance School, established in 1999 in Plano, Texas, with branches in Coppell, Frisco, and Irving. Through her academy, she has mentored over 300 students, guiding them in both the practical and theoretical aspects of Kuchipudi, including Natya Vedam and Natya Shastra. Suri is also a prolific choreographer and director, having conceptualized, scripted, and directed Kuchipudi dance dramas such as “Meera” and “Shiva Ganga.” In 2024, she reimagined and directed “Kalyana Srinivasam” for Natyanjali’s 25th-anniversary celebrations. Beyond her artistic endeavors, Srilatha Suri is deeply committed to philanthropy. She co-directs Echoes of India, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2010, which has installed 18 water purification plants and established medical clinics in India, positively impacting over 70,000 people. She also serves as the Cultural Coordinator for the Dallas Chapter of Yuva Bharathi.
