Srimathi Venkat is a distinguished Indian classical dancer and guru specializing in Bharatanatyam. Her journey in dance began at the tender age of five, under the tutelage of the esteemed Guru (Late) Kalaimamani Smt. K.J. Sarasa. She demonstrated a keen interest and talent in Bharatanatyam from an early age, performing her Arangetram on May 25, 1995, at the Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan in Chennai, an event organized by M/S Karthik Fine Arts. Throughout her career, Srimathi Venkat has been recognized for her contributions to the art form. She has received numerous accolades, including the “Kalai Valar Mani” from the Government of Tamil Nadu, “Natya Chudaroli” from Natyanjali Trust, Chennai, and “Natya Kala Vipanchee” from Vipanchee Trust, Chennai. Other significant awards include “Kalpashree Nritya Kalaivani” by Kalpashree Performing Arts Centre Trust, Bangalore, “Natya Kala Nipuna” by Government Music School & Salem Natyanjali, Salem, “Sevai Semmal Virudhu” by Bharathiyar Sangam, Chennai, “Kalai Olir Mamani” by Sivaneravai Trust, Chennai, and “Nrithya Kala Bharathi” by Gana Mukundha Priya Sabha, Chennai. Earlier in her career, she was honored as the “Best Dancer” in the Coimbatore region for consistently winning first prize in inter-school Bharatanatyam competitions for five consecutive years. A certified Bharatanatyam artist by the Government of Tamil Nadu and a graded artist in Doordarshan, Srimathi Venkat has performed extensively across India, with over 100 performances to her credit in various prestigious sabhas in and around Chennai, Coimbatore, and Rameshwaram. Her performances have also been featured on television channels such as Star Vijay, Doordarshan, and Sun TV. In 2008, Srimathi Venkat established “Sri Nrithyalaya – School of Bharathanatyam” in Chennai, an institution dedicated to training students in this traditional art form. The academy has grown to include three branches and currently trains over 100 aspiring students. Under her rigorous guidance, more than 54 students have completed their Salangai Pooja, and 15 students have successfully performed their Arangetram. Beyond her artistic pursuits, Srimathi Venkat also holds a Post Graduate degree in Management Studies from ICFAI Business School.
