Prof. Dr. Sruti Bandopadhay is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, renowned for her expertise in Manipuri dance. She holds a D.Litt in Manipuri Dance from Visva Bharati, an esteemed institution in India. Dr. Bandopadhay serves as a Professor in Manipuri Dance at Visva Bharati Santiniketan and is also a Professor in Dance at Rabindra Bharati University. Her extensive training in Manipuri dance was under the tutelage of eminent gurus including Guru Bipin Singh, Smt. Kalavati Devi, and Padmasree Darshana Jhaveri. Her contributions to the field extend beyond academia and performance. Dr. Bandopadhay is a recipient of prestigious international fellowships, including the Fulbright Fellowship, which enabled her to teach and perform in the United States, and the Commonwealth Fellowship for similar engagements in the United Kingdom. She is an accomplished performer and a prolific choreographer, with notable compositions such as "Alo," "Bharat-Tirtha," "Vasantarasa," and "Gita Govinda". Her bilingual production "Bharat-Tirtha" is a significant work based on Rabindranath Tagore's poem, portraying the unity in diversity of India. Dr. Bandopadhay's choreography, "Bhaktirasasudhasara," was presented by the Sruti Performing Troupe and was telecast on Doordarshan's National Program of Dance & Music. An early performance of Manipuri Folk dance by her, alongside Ms. Priti Patel, was recorded in 1990 by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). She is also an author, with five books and numerous articles on dance to her credit, and regularly delivers lectures on the subject.
